In a radical decision, Karimnagar becomes the first district in Telangana to ban the consumption of liquor in open spaces such as educational institutes and parks, after numerous complaints of alcohol-related crimes in the district.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Commissioner of Police V B Kamalasan Reddy said that the prohibition of alcohol consumption would be strictly implemented till December 8, and would be extended later depending upon the situation.

The police would take action against persons who violate the ban, under IPC Section 188 and the Hyderabad Police Act.
