The Telangana Police today detained an alleged naxalite, T Ramulu, 36, when he was extorting people in the name of the faction.
A huge cache of firearms and ammunition including an 8 mm rifle, 9 mm carbine, a .32 calibre pistol, 8 mm "tapancha", an SBBL and three DBBL (pump action) guns, and 50 rounds of live ammunition were seized from him.
Producing the accused before the media on Friday, Police Commissioner V B Kamalasan Reddy laid out the modus operandi of the Naxal's operations.
As per him, Ramulu, a native of Keshapatnam in the Peddapalli district of Telangana, was staying at Karimnagar. A relative of surrendered extremist J Nagaraju, Ramulu began associating himself with the former since 2000. In April 2000, naxalites killed Ramulu's father Mogilaiah suspecting him of playing an important role in the Nagaraju's capture.
Before his disappearance in 2012, Nagaraju gave nine firearms to Ramulu to hide and urged him to carry out operations on his behalf. However, Ramulu continued Nagaraju's legacy even after the former's disappearance.
Ramulu allegedly took a detour from naxal operations and began working for personal gains, and threatened and extorted money from his victims. It is learnt that Ramulu also exploited several women during his operations.
The cops said that a special team of the Karimnagar police had been working on the leads for the past one month and kept surveying Ramulu's activities before nabbing him.
