The 17th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court at Nampally today convicted the actor couple Jeevitha and Rajasekhar in a criminal defamation case.
The court imposed on them a jail term of one year and a Rs 5,000 fine.
The court convicted the couple on a complaint by noted Telugu movie producer Allu Aravind alleging that the couple had damaged the reputation of the Chiranjeevi Blood Bank being run by Telugu film actor Chiranjeevi.
In the complaint filed in 2011, Aravind alleged that Jeevitha and Rajasekhar had levelled false allegations that the management of the blood bank was selling the blood collected free of cost from donors, in the private market.
He urged the court to punish the couple for damaging the reputation of the blood bank.
The court tried the case for a long time and delivered its verdict today.
The court granted bail to the actor couple in order to allow them to appeal the order in a higher court.
