Tension gripped Gollapally village of Jagtial district today when a group of local BJP workers clashed bitterly with some TRS workers.
The fight broke out when the BJP cadre attempted to obstruct the path of the convoy of Telangana BC Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar, who was visiting the village on a tour.
This infuriated the TRS cadre who then verbally attacked the rival party's workers.
The argument soon turned into a physical confrontation and the two groups began to push and shove each other. Fortunately, before the conflict escalated any further, the police reached the spot and dispersed the crowd.
Several BJP workers, including the party's district in-charge Kannam Anjaiah, were taken into custody.
Speaking to the media later, the BJP workers claimed that they had opposed Eshwar's visit to protest the TRS government's failure to initiate any developmental projects in the area so far.
The minister, on the other hand, denied the charges, claiming that the TRS government was deeply committed to the welfare of the people of Telangana, and had introduced several schemes to bring development to the state in its six-year regime.
"The TRS government is committed to its people. It has given jobs to a large number of people. It has also taken various critical steps to strength the law enforcement agencies of the state by recruiting more police personnel, and providing new police vehicles to many police stations. We have worked tirelessly to develop the rural regions of the state as well," he said.
