Congress MLA T Jagga Reddy today slammed the union government over the non-procurement of paddy from the farmers of the state.
He alleged that the issue was a problem created by the ruling TRS and the BJP.
Speaking to media persons, Reddy said that paddy procurement had never been an issue for the union government until the end of the rule of the Congress-led UPA governments. He pointed out that the first Prime Minister of the country Jawaharlal Nehru had set up the FCI to procure paddy from the farmers of the state and the country.
Things had changed after the BJP came to power at the Centre, and both the TRS and the BJP were responsible for forcing the farmers of Telangana to come on to the roads and hold dharnas demanding the buying of their paddy crops, he claimed.
Claiming that the TRS leaders had followed the orders of the BJP leaders in the elections for the President of India, he wondered why the ruling party leaders and the state's BJP leaders were not able to convince Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this issue now.
He said that the TRS leaders routinely partied with those of the BJP, and expressed incredulity that they could not convince the saffron party leadership to buy the state's paddy.
He alleged that the simple truth was that the TRS leaders were just indulging in politics keeping in view the next Assembly elections, not even stopping short of creating a war-like situation in the state.
Claiming that the people of the state were looking towards the Congress now, he promised that the Congress would continue to fight on behalf of the farmers of the state.
