Jagan's Odarpu: Seema, Telangana Burn
Telangana protests against his tour, Seema protests against his arrest, and meanwhile, the general public was pained, as usual.
Hyderabad | 28th May 2010
Telangana districts fired up in protest against Jagan's scheduled consolation tour of those parts. In several places at Warangal, Karimnagar and other districts, pro-Telangana workers destroyed private property, lawyers burnt effigies of Jagan, and in general, there were several demonstrations being made. Even JAC members of Osmania University staged a protest.
Following the Congress MP's arrest, his supporters in Rayalaseema went on the rampage. In the railway station at Tirupati, 2 coaches of the Padmavathi Express were set on fire. In Anantapur and Kadapa, pro-Jagan protestors destroyed public and private property, including shops and business establishment.
Interestingly, and not at all unexpectedly, the train that Jagan travelled in for Friday's journey to Mahabubabad was a seat of severe discomfort all by itself. Thanks to the Inter City Express having halted at places for indefinite amounts of time, passengers were grossly inconvenienced. When the train reached Wanganpalli, it showed no signs of moving for hours together. People who expected to reach their destinations by lunchtime were stranded. Families who were travelling with kids had to go hungry and thirsty, with no clue of whether the journey was being resumed.
Meanwhile, Jagan said the violent resistance his tour is facing is a result of the TRS's politicization of his personal tour, thanks to their fear of the by-elections. He requested the TRS not to let the by-elections play with the common man's life (one person was reportedly killed in clashes between supporters of Jagan and Telangana).
Both KCR (the TRS president) and Eetela Rajender are vocal about their disapproval of Jagan's tour. And pro United Andhra Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal has said that action must be taken on the TRS for orchestrating the violence that the state saw today, and that party leaders must be arrested.
