Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today launched an
AP Fact Check website and
Twitter handle at his camp office to combat any "false news" being circulated about the state government.
Condemning the "misinformation campaign" launched by the detractors of the YSR Congress Party regime in the state, the CM said, "Many people have been launching vitriolic attacks on our government in the news media and on social media. They base their charges on rumours and spread malicious lies about us. We hope that the AP fact check platforms will help us counter such fake news, and will take the truth to the people of the state."
He urged the law enforcement officials of the state to identify the sources of the "spiteful smear campaigns", and to punish those responsible for the same.
"Nobody has the right to malign and damage the image of individuals or organisations with baseless allegations, for personal gains or otherwise. I would urge the people of AP not to indulge in such acts," Jagan said.
On the occasion, the Andhra Pradesh Digital Corporation also shared a tweet lauding the initiative that read, "Hon'ble Chief Minister @ysjagan launched the official Fact Check wing of GoAP, an initiative by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, created with an aim to curb the spread of misinformation in the state (sic)."
While many supporters of the Jagan regime will surely welcome the website, many others might see it as just another platform for pro-government propaganda.
