Ratnavath Baloji, Inspector of Prohibition & Excise, Jadcherla, was caught red-handed today by the Anti-Corruption Bureau when he demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 65,000 from a complainant named Rekala Tirupataiah Goud, a toddy businessman of Pothulamadugu village in Bhootpur mandal of Mahbubnagar district, to do an official favour - i. e. "for having conducted TFT (Tree for Tappers) Test of the complainant and his sons and to forward the same to the Excise Superintendent, Mahabubnagar, to issue TFT Licences pertaining to the complainant and his sons".
The tainted amount was recovered from Baloji's possession. A rexine cover on his table and a General Register which had come into contact with amount yielded positive results in a chemical test.
Baloji had allegedly already demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 25,000 on January 19.
Baloji was charged with performing his duty improperly and dishonestly to obtain undue advantage, and was arrested and produced before the First Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Nampally, Hyderabad.
ACB officials said that in cases of bribes being demanded by any public servants, people may call the ACB toll-free number 1064 to complain.
