Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao on Saturday said that Hyderabad had surpassed Bangalore in the IT sector in terms of office space.
Replying to a question raised on the issue in the Assembly by Congress leaders Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and D Sridhar Babu, KTR said that the State had registered a 17% growth in the IT sector last year.
He also said that the total number of employees working in the IT sector in Hyderabad had reached 5.5 lakh now as against just three lakh before the creation of Telangana State.
He also claimed that IT giants like Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft and Google had enhanced their presence in Hyderabad.
All of these, he said, were due to the efforts made by the State government, and no thanks to the Congress.
He also alleged that neither the Congress-led UPA government nor the BJP-led NDA government had sanctioned funds for the ITIR project, and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in fact officially shelved the ITIR policy in 2018.
KTR also claimed that his government had created 12.67 lakh jobs through its TSIPASS policy. He said that the State government was committed to creating jobs for the unemployed youth, and urged the Opposition parties to extend their support to it.
Bangalore has about 15 lakhs employees in IT.
