The SOT police of Cyberabad today arrested a gang involved in an IPL betting racket.

Revealing the details at a press conference, Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Stephen Ravindra said that the police had conducted raids in the Bachupally, Miyapur, Gachibowli, Mylardevpally and three other areas, and arrested 23 bookies.

He said that the police had also seized assets worth Rs. 2.2 crore from them including Rs. 93 lakh in cash, 14 betting boards, 8 laptops, 28 smartphones, 4 tabs, 4 TVs, 2 routers, 1 printer and 5 four-wheelers.

He said that the gang members were resorting to the betting by using an app on the Google PlayStore. The police would write a letter to Google and ask the company to remove the app, Ravindra said.

He added that the gang members had their network in Mumbai, Goa and Dubai, and that the betting was done in four layers, with three bookies working as associates of the main bookie.

He urged the parents of the children who were taking part in the betting games to focus on monitoring the phones of their wards.
