Amid speculations that no relief and rescue works were possible in the current deluge-like situation, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today said that the government would now seek the Indian Army's assistance to handle the situation and avert disasters.
Praising the Army for its disaster management and relief works across the nation in several unforgiving terrains, KCR directed GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy to seek its help immediately to mitigate the situation in the city and enable the civilians avoid any looming disasters.
He said that the defense forces were well equipped to handle such situations and could help evacuate people living in the low-lying areas of the city through the harsh rains.
He asked the GHMC and other concerned officials to relentlessly pursue relief and rescue operations in coordination with the Army (if it came to that), since the Skymet Weather Services predicted severe rains for several more days to come.
