The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) today began re-carpeting the roads that have been severely damaged in the rains.
The GHMC said that it had deployed hundreds of its workers this morning to repair roads and sewers besides clear water-marooned areas. The officials also wrote a letter to the Directorate Of Town And Country Planning (DTCP) demanding 40 personnel to conduct the drive to demolish the 28,000 illegal structures encroaching storm drains and low-lying areas.
The GHMC has estimated the total cost of the repair works and demolitions in the twin cities to be Rs. 100 crores.
The municipal body also said that it would fill up 150 potholes each day.
