Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday went to Delhi to meet Congress In-Charge for AP Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, Home Minister P Chidambaram, and, if possible, All India Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Upon emerging from a meeting with the Union Home Minister, the CM informed the media personnel gathered that he had discussed various important issues with Chidambaram.
The CM reportedly asked the Centre to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy grains by Rs. 200 per quintal.
He is also understood to have asked the government to permit the export of rice grains from the state. He sought permission for the export of 10 lakhs tonnes of raw rice and 15 laks tonnes of boiled rice.
He explained that 140 lakhs tonnes of paddy grains were yet to be procured by the state government from the farmers, and that exporting rice would help the farmers get better prices for their produce.
Kiran Kumar Reddy, according to sources, also sought the deletion of the contentious Clause 14 (F) of the AP Public Employment Order 1975, so that the thousands of Sub-Inspector (SI) aspirants in the Telangana region may write their exams.
The awarding of the National Project status to Polavaram and Pranahita-Chavella projects was also reportedly discussed.
