Excise officials on Thursday conducted raids and destroyed ganja, which was being cultivated illegally in plantations spread over four acres in the Yanakpalli village of Manuru mandal under Medak district.
According to the Excise sleuths, the raids were conducted on definite information that marijuana plantations were being cultivated illegally in the farm lands. However, no one was arrested during the raids.
The officials said that the raids were conducted as a part of a drive to check the cultivation of ganja, and that they had destroyed crops worth Rs. 5 crore (estimate) at the plantations. They said that the value of the destroyed ganja was yet to be ascertained.
Ganja cultivation is banned under the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) act. A case has been registered in the Medak district police station.
