As part of a drive to check cultivation of Ganja, Excise Department sleuths on Thursday conducted early morning raids and destroyed marijuana plantations in thousands of acres at Damaragidda village in Manuru mandal, under Medak police station limits.
According to Medak Excise Superintendent of Police, the officials conducted raids after getting information that ganja plants were being cultivated in the village.
The approximate value of the contraband destroyed in the village can be estimated at around Rs. 2 crore, the officials said. However, they said the value of the destroyed ganja was yet to be estimated.
"We found illegal cultivation of marijuana, and uprooted thousands of hemp plants and burnt them down in the village itself," they said.
However, no one was arrested in this connection in the village.
Cannabis cultivation is banned under the Narcotic Drugs And Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A case has been registered under Medak district police station.
