Excise department sleuths, on Wednesday, conducted raids and destroyed ganja crops worth crores of rupees at plantations at Pipri (Narayankhed mandal, Medak district), on Wednesday morning.
According to the Excise Superintendent of Police, the officials conducted raids after they received information that ganja plants were being cultivated illegally in the village.
The officials destroyed plantations grown in 5 acres of land on the outskirts of Pipri village. However, no arrests were made in this connection.
According to the officials, the approximate value of the contraband destroyed in the village is estimated to be around Rs. 5 crore. However, they said, the value of the destroyed ganja was yet to be estimated.
"We found illegal cultivation of marijuana, and uprooted thousands of hemp plants and burnt them down in the village itself," they said.
Cannabis cultivation is banned under the Narcotic Drugs And Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A case has been registered under Medak district police station.
Earlier, excise officials from Narayanakhed, Medak, Jogipet and Patancheru raided and destroyed plantations in which the crop was being cultivated along with red gram.
