The excise department officials on Friday continued their drive against illegal cultivation of ganja in the district, and destroyed plantations of the contraband in which marijuana crop valued in crores of rupees was being cultivated.
The excise officials' drive continued for the second consecutive day in Mavinelli village in Manur mandal.
The officials said that the cost of the destroyed crop grown in the village was yet to be estimated. However, the official said the value of crop grown in the village was in crores.
Earlier, the excise officials from Narayanakhed, Medak, Jogipet and Patancheru raided the crop being cultivated along with red gram, and destroyed it.
The contraband destroyed in the village was estimated at Rs. 2 crore. The police arrested 2 villagers — Moulana and Ch. Nagaiah in this connection, and registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
