Scares of an epidemic stemming from the ongoing heavy rains in Hyderabad have started to spread as scores of people thronged the Fever Hospital over the past few weeks citing severe illness.
As per authorities, the hospital normally receives 500 to 1,000 patients each day, but for the past few weeks the number has almost doubled.
As many as 2,000 patients are being registered at the hospital each day, mostly with cases of waterborne diseases.
The hospital staff have extended the out-patient timings to 4 pm.
Meanwhile, Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao directed the GHMC to fix the sanitation and drinking water problems. He also directed the health officials to take immediate steps to quarantine patients and prepare a report on the situation.
