In an unfortunate incident, Sultan Bazar Police Station Additional Inspector S Laxman (39) and his wife Jhansi (34) were today killed in a road mishap at Abdullapurmet, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The incident occurred on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway, when Jhansi, who was driving the car in which the couple was travelling with their son from Suryapet towards Hyderabad, lost control of the vehicle and hit a parked lorry from behind.
Reports say that the family had gone home to their native place in Suryapet two days ago to participate in a family ritual. After the completion of the same, they were returning to the city in their car (TS 08 EV 8055).
Both the passengers died on the spot since the car had been travelling at a very high speed. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.
The eight-year-old son of the couple, Kushalav, fortunately, escaped the accident unhurt.
The police have registered a case in the incident and are investigating the matter.
The rising number of road mishaps has been a matter of great concern for the state's administration. Concerned by the problem, the Telangana government has been taking various steps to prevent such mishaps. As part of these efforts, many meetings have been held on road safety in the past few months, including one
convened by Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar.
