As per the instructions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar today held a meeting on road safety measures.
Presiding over the road safety meeting held at the BRKR Bhavan, Kumar highlighted the need to make concerted efforts to minimise road accidents and fatalities in the state, and said that an important step towards ensuring this was to conduct a comprehensive training programme for both government and private drivers to sensitise them about road safety measures.
He then directed the officials of the GHMC, and the National Highways, Roads & Buildings, and Panchayat Raj departments to identify accident-prone locations and ensure that sign boards were put up in those areas to prevent any mishaps in the future, by January 15.
The CS also emphasised the need to improve the data collection mechanism used to record information about road accidents, and said that in order do so, an app needed to be developed to capture and record the geo-coordinates and photographs of accident sites.
He also asked the officials to prepare a separate road safety plan for the Outer Ring Road area, and set up automated measures, including cameras and speed guns, to prevent speeding and nab those violating traffic rules. The officials have been told to submit the report within a week. It will then be examined by the CM for approval.
At the meeting, Kumar also addressed the GVK EMRI officials, and instructed them to scale up active bleeding control training of volunteers, claiming this would contribute greatly to saving the lives of accident victims.
Roads & Buildings Principal Secretary Sunil Sharma, Additional DGP Jitender, Home Principal Secretary Ravi Gupta, PR & RD Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Health Secretary Syed Ali Murtuza Rizvi, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Managing Director Dana Kishore, GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar and Transport Commissioner M R M Rao were among the officials present at the meeting.
