The Hyderabad Police today busted an international gold-smuggling racket through the detaining of four persons from the Old City.
The Hyderabad Police today busted an international gold-smuggling racket through the detaining of four persons from the Old City.
The police seized gold biscuits weighing about 4.19 kgs and net cash of Rs. 16 lakhs, 2,500 riyals and 910 UAE Dirhams from their possession. The cops discovered the racket when the criminals were attempting to exchange the foreign currency illegally.
The arrested were identified as:
1. Zafar Ahmed alias Zaki, 28, a four-wheeler broker based at Azampura
2. Syed Wajeed alias Ajeed, 25, working in a tarpaulin shop named "Z" Tarpaulin, based at Teegalkunta
3. Arif Ali Shaik alias Ali, 40, an airport representative at Western Hotel, based at Mirchowk
4. Mohd Taheruddin alias Asif, 24, working at a burkha centre at Sheran Market, based at Old Malakpet, and
5. Mohd Feroz Khan alias Feroz, 32, based at Hasannagar, and currently residing in Dubai (absconding)
During the course of the interrogation, it was revealed that the said foreign-marked gold biscuits were being smuggled through the carriers by international flights from Dubai to Hyderabad. The accused Feroz, who is residing at Dubai, would procure the gold and send the same to Hyderabad through the carriers for selling here. Upon receipt of the gold from Dubai, Asif would sell it to known customers at a discounted price for illegal gains.
The apprehended persons and the seized property were handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation.
The above arrests were made under the supervision of N. Koti Reddy, Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police, Commissioner's Task Force, and saw the particpation of Thakur Sukhdev Singh, Inspector of Police, South Zone Task Force; SIs G. Mallesh, K. Venkateshwarlu, S K Jakeer Hussain and D. Venkateshwarlu; and other staff.
