City Faces Rain Havoc For Second Day In A Row
Citizens in many areas were subjected to untold hardships when heavy rains lashed parts of Hyderabad for the second night in succession.
Hyderabad | 15th September 2017
When it rains in the city, problems pour in abundance for the citizens. Inundation of low-lying areas, water-logging on the streets and roads, overflowing of drains and nalas, blackouts due to power cuts, traffic jams etc have become a common feature in the state capital, thanks to the utter negligence and failure on the part of the urban development authorities year after year.
Things went just according to the script last night, too, as the citizens in many areas were subjected to untold hardships when heavy rains lashed parts of the city for the second night in succession on Thursday night.
As usual, the downpour left low-lying areas water-logged, and the main streets and roads submerged. Malkajgiri, Kacheguda, Secunderabad, Manikonda, Somajiguda, Ameerpet, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Punjagutta and other areas were the worst affected. In some localities waters even entered the houses of people. And many drains and nalas too overflowed, with the sewage and drain water flowing on the streets in many localities leaving an unbearable stink.
All the water on the streets also led to vehicular traffic being seriously hit in the morning hours, making it a major hassle for parents to take their children to schools and for office-goers to get to their workplaces.
However, things were brought back to some degree of normalcy by the the emergency squads of the GHMC, which were kept on alert and standby because of the forewarning about imminent rains for the next few days, and which swung into action to clear the overflowing drains and choked sewerages. Senior GHMC officials supervised the relief operations in many places.
