The Telangana committee of the Bajrang Dal today held a 'chalo Pragathi Bhavan' protest program, demanding that the KCR government strictly implement anti-cow slaughter laws in the state.
During the protest, state convener of the Bajrang Dal Subash Chander and leaders Sivaram and Kumara Swami reached the Pragathi Bhavan and raised slogans against the state government. The activists of the VHP also took part in the program.
The protesters alleged that the local police had arrested more than 2,000 activists of the Bajrang Dal and the VHP and that even VHP state president M Ramaraju and official spokesperson R Z Shashidhar had been arrested on Wednesday night.
The demonstration reportedly led to the police lathi charging them. Some claim that activists Rudra Brahmam, Anil Kumar and Sai were injured in the lathi charge.
Debates over the banning of cow slaughter have been raging on in Telangana for some time now. However things really came to a head when a reported
cow vigilante was "attacked" some days ago.
The VHP had called on the injured vigilante, Sanjay, who was attacked by "cow smugglers" while trying to stop them from "illegally transporting" cows. The body had alleged that the "cow smugglers" had tried to mow him down twice with their vehicle.
