Activists of the right-wing outfit the Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today called on an injured cow vigilante, Sanjay, who is currently undergoing treatment at Secunderabad's Yashoda Hospital.
Telangana VHP president M Rama Raju, official spokesperson R Shashidhar Bajrangdal, and various others visited Sanjay at the hospital to enquire after his health.
Speaking on the occasion, Rama Raju alleged that the perpetrators of the attack had tried to kill the vigilante for attempting to stop their vehicle in which cows were being "illegally transported" by mowing him down twice under the limits of the Uppal police station.
Claiming that the attack was part of the MIM's agenda to stop cow vigilantes and promote cow slaughter, he added that party head Asaduddin Owaisi had a history of supporting cow slaughter and that the latter had even asked Telangana DGP M Mahender Reddy not to implement any cow slaughter prevention laws in the state.
The issue of cow slaughter has been a flashpoint among the political parties of the state for some time now.
Last year, firebrand BJP leader and MLA T Raja Singh had claimed that he was ready to attack his own party to protect Hindu culture and its various symbols, including the cow.
Speaking at a dharna held at the Indira Park by the Yuga Tulasi Foundation to demand that the cow be made the national animal of the country, he had asserted that he would not hesitate to take drastic steps for the protection of his religion and culture.
The MLA had also demanded that the union government declare the
cow as the national animal at the earliest.
