The political war that began between the Congress and the BJP after the former's alleged proposal of a ban on the Bajrang Dal in its manifesto for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections, has reached Telangana as well.
State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar had given a call to the party cadres to hold Hanuman Chalisa recitation programs on Friday in front of the Congress offices across the State. Scores of activists of the Bajrang Dal dutifully tried to comply, attempting to hold protests and read the Hanuman Chalisa in front of the offices of the Congress across the State. However, the police foiled the attempts.
Many BJP and Bajrang Dal activists reached the State Congress headquarters Gandhi Bhavan too and tried to hold the program. The police stopped them and arrested them immediately. The police also put up barricades to prevent the entry of the activists as a precautionary measure. The activists entered into arguments with the police and raised slogans against them.
Meanwhile, scores of Mahila Congress leaders held a protest in front of Gandhi Bhavan and raised slogans against the BJP and Bajrang Dal activists. They alleged that the BJP was trying to create a communal rift in Telangana by holding such programs.
