All auto-rickshaws in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad will go off the roads from Sunday midnight.
Protesting against the recent increase in petrol prices, and also to express solidarity with the ongoing general strike by government employees from Telangana, the Telangana Auto Workers' Joint Action Committee has called for a 48-hour 'Auto Bandh' from 18 September midnight.
Talking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan, TRS Labour Wing president L Roop Singh said that the JAC has unanimously taken a decision to observe the auto bandh.
Roop Singh called upon auto drivers in other Telangana districts to participate in the bandh and express solidarity with the Telangana agitation. He appealed to transport authorities to increase the minimum fares of autorickshaws to Rs. 20 and the per-kilometer fare to Rs. 10.
The auto drivers will intensify their agitation if the government fails to take a decision favourable to their, he said. The drivers of goods and transport auto-rickshaws will also participate in the bandh, he added.
Meanwhile, the state government is reportedly trying to make alternative arrangements in view of the auto bandh. (INN)
