The RGI Airport Customs Air Intelligence Unit, B-Batch, Hyderabad, seized 2.449 kilo grams of gold worth Rs. 75 lakhs from a passenger on Friday.
On Feb 27, at about 11:30pm, RGI Airport Custom Officials intercepted at the exit gate, a passenger Mir Mohamed Hussain of Karnataka, who arrived from Singapore by Silk Air Flight MI 478. The passenger had not declared any dutiable goods in his possession, and tried to escape the checking of personal baggage too.
On questioning by officers, the passenger denied possessing dutiable / prohibited goods, but after detailed examination, officers recovered two gold bars weighing 1 kg each and one armlet weighing 0.449 kg., totally weighing 2.449 kg, which were concealed beneath his pants and shirt.
The total value of the seized goods is Rs. 74.43 Lakhs. The passenger was interrogated, and he admitted to the offence. Further investigation to nab the kingpin behind the smuggling is going on, according to sources. (INN)
