Human Rights Forum (HRF) State Vice President Burra Ramulu succumbed to cancer on Saturday afternoon at a government hospital in Warangal.
He had authored "Edo Sara Katha", which marked a shift in the civil liberties movement.
The respected human rights activist was battling cancer for 6 months, and was shifted to Warangal from Hyderabad 3 days ago.
Shobha, a member of the HRF, expressed grief over the death of Burra, stating that the demise of the activist was a devastating blow to them.
Prof. Haragopal, also a member of the HRF who claims 40 years of acquaintance with Burra Ramulu, stated that the latter was a sincere, empathising, honest and courageous individual who was among the foremost to respond to any violation of human rights.
He went on to inform the media that Burra was the 3rd human rights activist belonging to the HRF to die in the last 2 years. 57-year-old K Balagopal, a "relentless crusader for human rights," according to the HRF website, had passed away in October 2009.
