The Telangana High Court today directed the state government to release BJP state chief and MP Bandi Sanjay, saying that his arrest was against the norms.
Opposing 14 days of judicial remand for Covid-19 violations, the court stayed it, directed that the BJP chief be released from jail immediately, and posted the case to February 7.
It also issued notices to the government for details.
The court expressed serious displeasure at the way of the arrest of Sanjay, including at Sanjay being arrested at 10:50 pm and an FIR being filed at 11:15 pm.
It also found fault with the police officials for the inclusion of section 333 in the FIR and the failure to give related details.
The court also asked if any police were really wounded in the supposed mel?e and jostling with the BJP leaders in the protest, and sought the related medical reports of the injuries to the police persons.
Slamming the government for what appeared to be an arrest on trumped up charges, it directed the police to give all the details related to the Covid violations made by the MP, and of the arrest.
