HC Asks Government Why UOH VC Should Not Be Removed
The Hyderabad High Court served notices to the State and Central governments, and the VC of the University Of Hyderabad, on a petition seeking his removal.
The Hyderabad High Court served notices to the State and Central governments, as also to the Vice-Chancellor of the University Of Hyderabad, on a petition seeking the removal of the Vice-Chancellor (P Appa Rao).
The Court had taken up for hearing on Monday, the petition filed by Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha Member V Hanumantha Rao seeking the removal of Appa Rao.
During the course of the hearing, the Court also questioned the need for outsiders to enter the Hyderabad Central University premises.
The hearing also saw the Court expressing anger over Hanumantha Rao's behaviour when the latter tried to speak to the judge directly. The judge, who failed to calm Rao down, asked the police to control him.
Speaking to the media later, Hanumantha Rao alleged that Vice-Chancellor Appa Rao was the reason for the death of Hyderabad Central University student Rohith Vemula. He also said that it was inappropriate for the Centre to continue Appa Rao as the VC when the students were vehemently opposed to him.
Hanumantha Rao demanded that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, too, pressurize the Centre to change the VC, as the latter was getting support from the ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) student wing.
Urging that the Centre implement reservations in the private sector and the judiciary, too, Hanumantha Rao asked the Centre to make Justice Ramana's statement a reality.
