The Hyderabad High Court today observed that it could not take up a hearing on any issue on the basis of sentiments.
The court today took up a petition filed by Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao urging it to take action against University Of Hyderabad Vice-Chancellor Podile Appa Rao and Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya in connection with the recent suicide of dalit student scholar Rohith Vemula.
The MP had urged the court to order the removal of HCU Vice-Chancellor P Appa Rao in view of an FIR lodged in a police station against him, and also take action against Dattatreya.
Taking the contents of the petition seriously, the High Court observed, "How can the Vice Chancellor become principal accused on the basis of an FIR, and Dattatreya become accused no 2? The court cannot take up a hearing of a petition on the basis of sentiments."
The court also asked the petitioner to study the case in detail first and then appear before it, and adjourned the case to Monday.
