Heavy rains lashed the city on Wednesday disrupting normal life, with Rajendra Nagar recording the highest rainfall of 58.3 mm followed by Bahadurpura with 28.5 mm and Saidabad with 28 mm.
Heavy rains were also recorded in Mehdipatnam, Mangalhat, Asif Nagar, Jiaguda, Puranapul, Chandrayangutta, Afzal Gunj, Lakdikapul, Nampally, Panjagutta, Khairatabad, Banjara Hills, Hi-tech City, Madhapur, Kondapur, Secunderabad, Tarnaka, L B Nagar and other areas.
The downpours led to traffic jams across the city. The rains also caused water-logging and traffic congestions in many areas. The traffic beneath the PVNR Expressway at Attapur came to a standstill as the road leading to the Aramghar X Roads was under water. And due to the high flow of rainwaters into the Musi river, the traffic police shut down the Moosarambagh bridge, and diverted the traffic on both sides.
The Met department has predicted a generally cloudy sky with moderate to heavy rains/thundershowers till Friday. However, on Saturday heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted. A yellow alert has also been issued in the city till Saturday.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the potential impact expected includes water pooling on roads and low-lying areas; traffic congestion at most locations; wet and slippery roads; fallen trees and electric poles; electricity, water and other infrastructure disturbances for a few hours; and drainage clogging.
