Incessant rains continued to lash several parts of Telangana for the third consecutive day on Saturday, affecting normal life.
Low-lying areas faced inundation while rivulets were in spate at several places in the State.
The northern and eastern parts of the State have been bearing the brunt, receiving heavy rainfall since Friday. Nizamabad, Nirmal and Adilabad and neighbouring areas are badly affected.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Southwest monsoon is causing the rains in the State. The highest rainfall of 206 mm was recorded at Navipet, followed by 201 mm at C H Kondoor in Nizamabad, 178 mm at Abdullapur in Nirmal, and 160 mm at Munagala in Suryapet.
Jannapalli Peddavagu is overflowing in Navipet mandal of Nizamabad district.
The Gaddennavagu project has received heavy inflow in Nirmal district, and officials have lifted 6 gates of the project, releasing water downstream. Bhainsa in the same district was inundated due to heavy rains.
One of the other outcomes of the heavy rains has been coal production coming to a standstill at Manuguru area in Badradri-Kothagudem district. Rain water entered the coal mines, resulting in the interruption to production of 32,000 tons of coal in the district. With the rain water entering the opencast mines, coal production was stopped in Mancherial district. According to officials, over 20,000 tonnes of coal production was affected by heavy rains across the Singareni Collieries in Telangana.
