Heat Wave Claims 84 Lives

As many as 84 people died due to the severe heat wave conditions throughout Andhra Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department said on Friday.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, severe heat wave conditions prevailed over parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, and most parts of Telangana.
The highest maximum temperature of 47 degrees Celsius was recorded at Bapatla, Rentachintala and Ramagundam.
The maximum number of sunstroke deaths since April 1 have been reported from Karimnagar, with 43 deaths. Karimnagar is followed by Medak (12), West Godavari (11), Chittoor (6), Vizianagaram (4), Nalgonda (3), Nizamabad (3), East Godavari (1) and Visakhapatnam (1).
The department warned of severe heat wave conditions for the next two days in the districts of Nellore, Prakasham, Guntur and Krishna of coastal Andhra Pradesh; and Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda, Medak and Hyderabad of Telangana.
The state government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 50,000 for BPL (Below Poverty Line) families whose kin have died due to sunstroke. They have been advised to to get their post mortem report and FIR to officials in order to collect their compensation. (INN)
