Cyclone Vardah lashed Andhra Pradesh on December 12, and claimed two lives in its wake after dusk in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.
Parts of Kadapa and Krishna districts also received moderate to heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
The Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur, Nellore and Prakasam districts got caught in the cyclone that crossed the coast of Tamil Nadu on Monday, and the ensuing deluge continued to loom over these regions on Tuesday as well. Strong gales uprooted trees, a few buildings, electricity poles and communication towers. All transport were severely hit.
Authorities in Nellore declared an indefinite holiday for educational institutions from Tuesday.
All flights starting from the Renigunta airport were suspended as the runway got flooded. Railway authorities, too, cancelled or diverted all trains originating from affected areas. The road transport was also affected. Several pilgrims were stranded near the hill shrine.
