YSR Congress Party MLA P Ravindranath Reddy on Saturday demanded the establishment of the new capital of the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh in a backward area.
Speaking to media persons at the Assembly's media point in Hyderabad, Ravindranath Reddy said that the construction of the new capital in a backward area would boost the local economy and ensure development of that particular region.
Therefore, instead of searching for a space between Vijayawada and Guntur, where land prices were too high, the government should select a backward area for the new capital.
Ravindranath Reddy also condemned Governor E S L Narasimhan's address to the joint session of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature and Council.
He said that there was no mention of any package or scheme for the development of the backward Rayalaseema region.
He said that the government had failed to mention anything about the steel plant that was proposed by the Steel Authority of India, to be set up at Kadapa.
He warned that the people of Rayalaseema would launch a massive agitation if injustice was meted out to them. (INN)
