Is Telugu film actor and former union minister Chiranjeevi, who continued in the Congress after merging his Praja Rajyam Party into the Congress, staying away from politics?
Chiranjeevi's non-renewal of his membership of the Congress seems to be saying something. After merging his Praja Rajyam Party into the Congress, Chiranjeevi was elected as a Rajya Sabha member. After the division of united Andhra Pradesh Chiranjeevi stayed away from the Congress as there were some unpleasant developments in the party and plenty of stigma attached to it in the residual AP, and became busy with movies. He returned to films and Tollywood with his 150th film
Khaidi Number 150, which became a hit.
The actor is now busy with his next film Sy Raa Narasimha Reddy, the biopic of a freedom fighter. It is also reported that Chiranjeevi wants to continue in movies even after Sy Raa... The actor has tellingly not responded to the call given by Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to be active with the general elections nearing, and Congress leaders are assuming that Chiranjeevi's journey with the Congress is over.
There are also reports that Chiranjeevi has willingly become busy with films to ensure that his brother and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan does not face awkward situations by his (Chiranjeevi's) being active in the Congress. Chiranjeevi continuing in the Congress will attract derision from other political parties like the TDP and the YSR Congress Party, given Pawan Kalyan is criticising all political parties except BJP.
