President Droupadi Murmu today released a coin at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre commemorating late N T Rama Rao in his centenary year.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that NTR had enriched Indian cinema and culture through Telugu films.
"He breathed life into the prominent characters of Ramayana and Mahabharatha through his acting. The characters of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna played by him came so alive that people started worshiping him. He also expressed the pain of the common people through his acting, and spread the message of social justice and equality through his film Manushulanta Okkate," Murmu said.
The President said that NTR was equally popular as a public servant and leader. He had created a unique chapter in Indian politics through his extraordinary personality and hard work, and initiated many public welfare programs many of which were remembered even today, she said.
She concluded by saying that NTR's unique personality would always be imprinted in the hearts of the people, especially the Telugu-speaking people.
The President appreciated the union finance ministry for bringing out the commemorative coin.
