Producer and TFDC Chairman Dil Raju today issued an apology after his remarks at a promotional event for the movie Sankrantiki Vastunnam featuring actor Venkatesh.
During the event in Nizamabad, Raju reportedly said that while the Andhra Pradesh people cared more for movies, the Telangana culture was more about toddy and mutton than with movies.
His comments went viral, drawing criticism on social media for allegedly disparaging Telangana culture.
In a video released today, Raju clarified his intent and expressed regret. "I was referring to daawat (feast), mutton and white toddy as part of our Telangana culture, which I deeply admire. Some misunderstood my words as ridicule and shared negative comments on the social media. If my remarks hurt anyone's sentiments, I sincerely apologize," he said.
Highlighting his roots in Nizamabad, he emphasized his connection with Telangana. He recalled hosting the success meet for
Fidaa in Nizamabad and shooting parts of the film in Banswada. "The character of Bhanumati in Fidaa represents the strength of Telangana's family bonds. The movie resonated globally, showcasing our culture," he added.
Raju also cited the success of Balagam, which received widespread appreciation from the Telangana community and political leaders. "People called it 'our film', and I felt immense pride as a Telangana native," he said, and asked how anyone could assume he would demean the State's culture.
Raju reiterated his commitment to supporting Telugu cinema and fostering industrial growth in Telangana. "I've risen from humble beginnings to this position. My focus is on strengthening the film industry and benefiting the youth. TFDC remains apolitical, and I urge political parties not to involve me in unnecessary controversies," he said.
