The Kurnool district court sentenced Guntakal MLA Madhusudan Gupta to imprisonment of 3 months, and imposed a fine of Rs. 60,000, in connection with the death of 3 labourers working in his steel factory.
According to court sources, the 3 were killed after inhaling poisonous gases in Kalluru Steel Factory owned by Gupta.
The court stated that the factory had failed to take proper safety measures and did not follow rules and regulations. It also said that the factory had failed to take adequate precautions to avoid gas leakages.
Factory manager Devaraj was also fined Rs. 60,000 and sentenced to imprisonment for 3 months.
Gupta has said that he would move a petition before the high court, seeking release.
