The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission Group-1 Preliminary Examinations, scheduled to be held on July 25, were postponed to August 29.
The decision to postpone the examination date came after an emergency meeting of the APPSC, called by its chairman Venkatarami Reddy.
According to UPPSC chairman, the exams were postponed due to the forthcoming by-elections in the Telangana region.
The Telangana Student Joint Action Committee leaders had also formally requested the UPPSC to postpone the examinations in view of the by-polls.
The TSJAC also said that most of the applicants are involved in works connected to the by-polls, and that they were not prepared to face the examinations.
Another reason behind the decision to postpone the examination is that APPSC had lagged behind schedule in scrutinising the thousands of applications it had received, as well as in sending of hall tickets to the students.
