Rural Development Minister Dokka Manikya Varaprasad on Monday stated that the government would take all steps possible to check the migration of farm labour to cities for employment.
The minister was talking to media persons after participating in a District Review Meeting at the Anantapur Collectors' Office.
Manikya Varaprasad said that the government would implement the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in an effective manner in order to prevent the migration of agriculture labour affected due to drought.
The government would provide them with mandatory man-days, and also help farm labour in drought hit areas and reschedule their loans, he said.
Admitting that funds allotted for welfare schemes are indeed being misused, he said that the government would take stringent steps and punish the officials found guilty, after ordering a probe into the issue.
"All steps will be taken to prevent the misappropriation of funds," he stated.
Revenue Minister N Raghuveera Reddy, Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath, MLAs Payyavula Kesav, Gurnath Reddy, Madhusudhan Gupta and district officials were present in the meeting. (INN)
