More NREGS Mandays For Drought-Affected Mandals
The minister For Rural Development, Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad, promises that nearly Rs. 400 crores will be put in to help drought-affected mandals in AP.
Minister for Rural Development and NREGS Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad, on Tuesday, stated that the government would increase man-days from 100 to 150 under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to provide employment to labourers in drought-affected mandals.
Talking to media persons at the state Secretariat after meeting Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the minister said that works under the NREGS were delayed since officials were yet to ascertain the number of drought-affected mandals in the state.
Stating that the government's move would benefit lakhs of farm labourers in the state, he expressed confidence that the officials would prepare a list of drought-hit mandals by the end of this month, facilitating the government to take a decision.
"Once the list is prepared, the government will send it to the Centre for its approval and take a decision on implementing NREGS works," the minister said.
Work costing nearly Rs. 400 crores would be taken up under the NREGS in the drought-affected mandals, he said. (INN)
