The Telangana government is seriously planning to extend the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) by linking minor irrigation with the same.
Speaking to media persons after holding a review meeting with the officials concerned at his residence here on Sunday, Panchayat Raj Minister K Tarakarama Rao said that the government was planning to assign the minor irrigation works to jobless rural masses instead of engaging private contractors.
He said that the government was also considering increasing the mandays of the NREGS from the present 100 days in a year.
The minister asked the officials to compile and submit a detailed report on the implementation of the NREGS in Telangana. (INN)
