Governor Gifts Insurance Cards To Chiranjeevi Blood Bank Donors

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan today said that donation of blood was not a small act but a noble act.

Recalling her days as a house surgeon, the Governor said that she had seen even family members not coming forward to donate blood for their near and dear ones.

She made these remarks while addressing a gathering after distributing Chiru Bhadratha insurance cards (offering personal accident insurance) to all those who had donated their blood more than 50 times to the Chiranjeevi-owned Chiranjeevi Blood Bank, at Raj Bhavan.

Speaking on the occasion, she pointed out that those who donated blood would get fresh blood generated in their bodies in just a few days, and that it was absolutely safe.

She also hailed the services of Chiranjeevi to save the lives of many people on behalf of his blood bank.

She also said that the Raj Bhavan too was holding several blood donation camps, and that it had developed an app to reach out on behalf of those who were in need of blood. She urged Chiranjeevi to become a part of the app and extend the services of his blood bank to the Raj Bhavan, too.

Speaking on the occasion, Chiranjeevi said that he had set up his blood bank after observing the deaths of several people due to lack of blood in the year 1998. Realizing that he had several fans who could do anything for him, he set up his blood bank to use the love of his fans to help those in need, he said. He added that around 2,000 to 3,000 people donated blood frequently at his blood bank, and that he had come up with the insurance scheme in order to help those frequent donors. Each frequent blood donor at the Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust would, under the sceheme, be insured for Rs. 7 lakh, and the premium paid by the trust.

He claimed that his blood bank had so far collected 9.3 lakh units of blood from the donors. He said that of the total blood collected, 70% was given to the poor, while the remaining 30% was given to private hospitals.

Calling each blood donor a life saver, he said that each donor was a goodwill ambassador for the cause of blood donation.

He also said that he would soon construct a hospital for the welfare of cine workers, at Chitrapuri Colony in Hyderabad, and that the hospital would be operational by the time he celebrated his birthday next year.
