Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka today announced that the State government would construct an 800 MW power plant in Ramagundam, and that the ambitious project would be executed jointly by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and TSGENCO.
Speaking at a program in Ramagundam, the Deputy CM sought swift cooperation from local representatives and officials in providing the necessary land and facilities for the project.
Vikramarka promised that the sooner that the proposals were submitted, the quicker the construction of the power plant would commence.
The decision to establish the power plant was made after discussions with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and reflected the government's dedication to boosting the region's energy infrastructure, he said.
Vikramarka also reminded the people that during the People's March padayatra he had committed to constructing a power plant in Ramagundam. "I proudly say that this promise is now being fulfilled," he said.
Reflecting on the legacy of the Ramagundam RTS-B plant, which he said served the State and the nation for 50 years before being decommissioned due to technical reasons, the Deputy CM said that the emotional connection of the local people with the plant was a key factor in the decision to establish a new power plant in the same location.
In addition to the power plant, Vikramarka also announced plans to construct Ambedkar Knowledge Centres in Assembly constituencies across the State, provided that the local MLAs could identify and allocate 300 square yards of land.
"These centres will serve as educational hubs where underprivileged students will receive free coaching for competitive exams through online classes conducted by top lecturers. The classes will run from 10 AM to 5 PM, with provisions for students to clarify their doubts online, ensuring that they have access to quality education and preparation resources without having to travel to Hyderabad," he said.
The Deputy CM also spoke of the welfare measures initiated by his government, particularly for the workers of Singareni.
"Upon coming to power, the State government introduced a one-crore rupee insurance scheme for Singareni workers and implemented a 30-lakh insurance scheme for contract workers, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country. Additionally, plans are underway to modernize all canteens in Singareni to ensure they meet high hygiene standards," he said.
Vikramarka also reaffirmed his government's commitment to completing the Patipaka reservoir irrigation project in the Ramagundam area, another promise made during the padayatra. "Funds have already been allocated in the recent budget for this purpose, demonstrating the government's resolve to fulfill its promises to the people of Ramagundam," he said.
