The Girijana Vidyarthi Sangham (GVS), a forum of tribal students in the state, is planning to organize a day-long "Chalo Hyderabad" programme at the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, Bagh Lingampally, from 11 am to 5 pm, on January 29, in support of its demands.
GVS Telangana president Dharswat Ganesh Naik said that their demands included an increase in the reservation quota for STs from 6% to 12%, recognition of thandas and gudems as gram panchayats, and immediate release of funds for pending SC/ST students' fee reimbursements.
He expressed regret that the living standards of the weaker sections had not improved and they were not given employment despite statehood for Telangana.
