The GHMC has revealed a plan to create a competition among and reward colony associations for maintenance of sanitation activities, and to grade star hotels.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Saturday revealed an action plan which is designed to create a healthy competition among colony associations for maintenance of sanitation activities.
Revealing this to media persons at her chambers in the GHMC head office at Tank Bund, Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy said that the action plan would be extended to hotels, too.
She said that the action plan basically envisages the creation of a healthy competition among the colonies for improving the sanitation and maintenance of the parks in these colonies, and the evaluation of the best hotels in 5, 3 and 1 star categories separately.
The GHMC will call for Expressions of Interest from the resident/colony welfare associations and the hotels shortly, she said.
Elaborating further, Reddy said that an action plan has been prepared for participation of colony welfare associations in maintenance of sanitation activities and maintenance of parks in the colonies.
Expressions of Interest (EOI) will be called for from April 18 to April 25, 2011.
The EOIs will be forwarded to the concerned zonal commissioners. The evaluation agency will be identified (Government / NGO / federation of colony associations) for evaluation of the work of the colony associations and their grading.
The performance of the colony welfare associations will be evaluated by the evaluation agency on a monthly basis, and the half-yearly performance appraisal will be completed by October 31, 2011.
Works costing of Rs. 15 lakh will be awarded to the best colony on 1st November, 2011. The evaluation of best colony and the awarding of marks will be based on factors including 100 per cent coverage of door-to-door garbage collection (20 marks), 100 per cent litter bins at all commercial establishments (20 marks), 100 per cent cleanliness of roads, lanes, bye-lanes and open spaces (20 marks), 100 per cent maintenance of greenery and cleanliness in park (20 marks), and 100 per cent maintenance of colony infrastructure, viz. pathways, restrooms and lights (20 marks).
The usage of plastics in the colony will invite negative marking, with ten marks being deducted.
Similarly, a grading system for the 48 star hotels which exist in the GHMC limits has been evolved.
A task force constituted for the purpose will inspect the star hotels from May 1 to September 30, 2011, and evaluate the grading on the basis of several parameters.
These parameters include cleanliness of surroundings (15 marks), results of the food samples lifted from star hotels (15 marks), drinking water quality (15 marks), maintenance of kitchens (15 marks), cleanliness of utensils etc. (15 marks), parking facilities (25 marks), and statutory norms and other provisions.
Here again, the usage of plastics will invite negative marking, with 10 marks being deducted. (INN)
