Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief official spokesperson Dasoju Sravan Kumar and former mayor Banda Karthika Reddy who lost the GHMC election for the Tarnaka division, alleged tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the elections.
Expressing surprise over the win of TRS candidates in the Congress, TDP and BJP bastions, Sravan and Reddy said that no vote for the Independent candidates in some divisions was the best evidence to say that irregularities took place in the EVMs.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, Sravan and Reddy asked how IT minister K Taraka Rama Rao could repeatedly proclaim that his Party would win 100 divisions, and accused the TRS government of tampering with the EVMs to win 100 seats.
They also asked why the Election Commission had removed the NOTA option from the voting machines.
They expressed fear that the ruling Party would resort to tampering of EVMs in the Narayankhed Assembly by-election, too, and demanded that the government conduct the by-election through the ballot method or insert printers in the EVMs as practised throughout the country. They mentioned that printers were used in the EVMs in the Delhi and Bihar elections, too.
The Congress is conducting a Party candidates' meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, and Sravan and Reddy said that they would collect the opinion of the candidates on the irregularities in the EVMs division-wise.
