All hell broke out during the 4th ordinary General Council meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Tuesday as Telugu Desam Party (TDP) corporators fought pitched battles with marshals who had been ordered to evict them.
The TDP corporators, physically no match for the burly marshals, were forced to uproot the microphones from the stand to attack their evictors, but to no avail. The marshals, one by one, managed to carry the corporators out from the Council Hall and deposit them outside, where the indignant members huddled and grumbled about the injustice and insult shown to them.
Earlier, the bedlam broke out when the TDP corporators, led by party Whip Rama Rao, protested against the attempt by the woman Home Guards to drag the woman corporators of the party away from the Council Hall on the orders of Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy. This attempt had left the woman corporators, particularly Sheesh Kumari and Vijayalakshmi, with scratches on their arms.
Karthika Reddy was forced to order their removal after they, along with their male counterparts, had resorting to intense arguments with the Congress corporators.
The TDP corporators had earlier demanded that a resolution be passed in the GHMC, expressing solidarity with the suffering rain-hit farmers. The Congress corporators had objected to the resolution saying that though they had sympathy with the farmers, the GHMC was responsible for the upkeep of the city, and the farmers' problems were not part of its responsibilities.
This had ignited the verbal duel between the Congress and the TDP corporators.
The pitched battles between the TDP Corporators and the marshals saw the Mayor literally breaking out in a sweat, while the MIM corporators and the GHMC officials were seen observe the turn of events with glee.
